Our History
The farmhouse where lived Modesto Lodali, a hazelnut farmer, stock breeder, and small wine producer, was built in 1915. He owned approximately 45 calves and produced homemade wine for his friends and a few families in the area.

After Uncle Modesto passed away, in 1997 the farmhouse, which by that time had been abandoned for many years, was inherited by Walter.
He and his mother, Rita, started renovations and completed the work in 2001. They had the brilliant idea of opening a trattoriawith a few rooms in this perfect location, called IL VIGNETO, which means “vineyard” in Italian.
This very appropriate name was chosen because the trattoria is located at the top of Ravinali Hill surrounded by dolcetto, barbera, and nebbiolo vineyards.
In September 2005 the new management of the brothers Manolo and Rossano Allochis, respectively the Chef and General Manager… (discover the rest on our website!)
In the meantime Walter Lodali has focused his efforts on wine production, making great strides in the past few years to achieve an exceptional level of quality that is highly appreciated both in local markets and around the world.

The audience is a bit posh, dressed up and up style. The restaurant is part of a hotel or residence, which looks very nice, attracting mostly couples. We were there with our 4 yo, made sure she ate in advance, although they tailored a pasta for her.
A menu with the Piemontese traditional dishes but also some specials such as snails. The fried shrimp snack were quite popular. They serve amuses (3 types, veg, fish, meat) and friandises with the coffee. The starters were quite ok, see photos. We had tajarin al ragu and cacao ravioli with gorgonzola. The ravioli was excellent, a rare dish. My wife got the tajarin with a hair (!) in it, discovered it immediately, acknowledged, and the dish was taken away, replaced with a new one 15 minutes later. An apology would have been nice, since we could not really enjoy dinner together now. The dish itself was good. They made a special ‘baby’ pasta for our daughter, which she unfortunately did not like. She loved the small brown buns though.
We had a very nice Pescaja (Roero Arneis) wine.
Service is quite formal, not engaged, not attentive. We had to wait quite long for our wine to come. We also had to wait much too long for our bill to arrive, the waiter obviously forgot. Overall we felt a bit forgotten, while other tables got all the attention.
This has been my favourite restaurant in the area and I tried to have dinner here whenever I visit Langhe. In our latest visit we were very happy to find sand high quality of cooking and service, with new “creation” of classic dishes like Vittello Tonnato. Don’t ever miss any of the antipasti they are stunning. The wine list is very long with and very good range in prices and prestige. We were rather surprised the mark-up is far below when we typically find elsewhere – so a good place to try a high end bottle as you will have the excellent food to pair.
